Again, the riders tell me they had a pleasant but uneventful ride. But then …
Oh …………. my …………. gawd! What a wonderful event the Beaumont Ag Society organized with so many other “entities” from their neighbourhood! It was truly amazing!
Town of Beaumont Promotions Committee provided a shuttle van for riders who wanted to go for a shower or purchase stuff in town before dinner. And dinner! Holy cow! It was out of this world! (BBQ port loin chops, baked potato, baked beans, salad, rolls, squares and fruit.)
I didn’t get there in time for the musical prelude by a talented young man named Adam Holm (but I heard him at the end of the festivities — he’s very talented). After dinner we had speeches by local dignitaries (MLA George Rogers, Leduc County Mayor Marvin Molzan, Beaumont Councillor Jacqueline Biollo and others), some speeches by survivors … and then by those affected by breast cancer. We survivors have learned to “take it on the chin”, but it isn’t the same for family members affected by breast cancer in their mothers/daughters/sisters/friends. Especially family members who have lost someone to breast cancer. Those speeches were heart wrenching. There were tears and sobs … and it just reminds me again that what we are doing is so important!
After dinner and speeches, we were entertained by a dog agility demonstration sponsored by West Wind Equine Hospital. What a hoot! I was particularly taken by the itty bitty Papillion that absolutely spanked the other dogs with his (her?) agility and training! What a dog!
And what a party! I hated to go “home”.
In the morning, the Knights of Columbus did a bang-up job of breakfast, and then our riders and ground staff picked up their bagged lunches compliments of Eaglemont Christian Church.
Now that was a community working together! Thank you, Beaumont.
