She just let me know today that her surgery was yesterday and it went well. She really hopes that I will blog about her so that everyone will understand the power and the importance of mammography. This is what Hedi had to say:
Thought I’d let you know that the surgery yesterday went well. Feeling grumpy, sore and dizzy today so guess that means I’m on the road to recovery. Pulled the application forms off and will be sending them in for the first 4 days. I’m determined to make it and ride with determination. What the frig is up with this disease? LOL…not hard to tell I’m a little ticked with this dumb disease! One good thing is that due to my situation I can’t tell you how many friends and co workers have gone in for mammograms. All negative so far which rocks but I’m so glad they are going in! Mine was a fast growing invasive cancer so I’m blessed to have found it so early. They thought only one lymph gland would need to be taken for testing and all would be ok but they ended up taking three. So guess that means it started it’s journey but got nipped in the bud. Take that you little cancer cells. All along this journey medical staff have been telling me I’m the perfect reason for regular mammograms. What could have been a death sentence is going to be fine in the long run.
Fast growing … invasive. Thank God she went for her annual mammogram! Hedi is one of those women you can’t help but love. She’s funny and friendly, determined and careful (and she’s got a palomino mare that’s to die for).
So, from Hedi and me … if you’re over 50 and you’ve not done so yet, GET A MAMMOGRAM DONE, dammit! If you’re over 40 and have a family history of breast cancer, GET A MAMMOGRAM DONE, dammit!
Hedi, our thoughts are with you. Heal well and call me if you’d like me to take you for any/all of your radiation treatments. (That was not an idle offer.)

Does this not make you so angry you could just spit? I have other words but this is a public forum so I’ll restrain myself. This is why we need to ride. This is why we need to set our fundraising goals REALLY HIGH and work our butts off to achieve them. You just rest and get better Hedi. We’ll take care of the rest of it. God bless.

If you’re female and over 20, get a mammogram done… dammit!!

*laughing at Pam* I don’t know about Manitoba, but here in Alberta you cannot GET a mammogram when you are in your 20’s or 30’s without them having found a very good reason for doing so. If you kick and scream, you can get one in your 40’s … and every woman should get one EVERY YEAR after she’s 50. Dammit. *grin*
Hedi is feisty. She’s gonna come through this just fine … but “fast growing” and “invasive”. Those are words you only want to hear in relation to your tulip bulbs, not your ta-ta’s!
