We were invited to stay at the McLean Ranch down at the bottom of a draw, parked beside a creek. The scenery was phenomenal.
In fact, parts of the movie Unforgiven were shot here, right where we were camping. There’s the cutest tiny log cabin and red-and-white building that looks the part of an old western movie; it’s the cookhouse. Signatures on the walls here include Clint Eastwood and Robert Duvall.
We sent Cookie ahead (Karen Carrier) to start dinner. She busted-out the BBQ and started grillin’! Riders pulled in, set up electric fence, fed and watered the horses and sat down to the best dinner yet: BBQ’d pork loin, baked potatoes with sour cream, cooked carrots and a huge salad. Heaven was eating that spread, sitting by the creek with the spirit of the old west all around us – you see, the old west never really died – its still living here in this valley – with memories of Clint Eastwood, Robert Duvall and now the Hole In The Head Gang – we are a lucky few still living life in the pink!
