Pink at the Rink Goes Wild!

I’m sure that most of our Pink Family is aware of the hockey phenomenon called “Pink at the Rink”. Players are given a specially designed pink jersey, and each player has the name of someone who has had breast cancer written on his (or her) jersey. Well … this Sunday, there will be an Oil King wearing a Pink at the Rink jersey that says Wild Pink Yonder!

Let me tell you the story …

One of Wild Pink Yonder’s major sponsors is West Wind Veterinary Hospital (just off Highway 14 at Range Road 212 between Sherwood Park and Tofield).  The owner is Dr Deborah Carroll, who has a son (Ben) who is a very talented hockey player.  He’s an Oil King!  When he was asked whose name to put on his pink Oil King jersey, he was stuck (in a lucky kind of way).  No one in his family has had to face breast cancer. None of his friends’ families have had to face breast cancer. What was a guy to do?

Well, every year Ben helps his mom, dad and sister (and the West Wind staff) with events that benefit Wild Pink Yonder.  He’s helped in the planning, decorating, bbq’ing, and the inevitable cleaning as they have hosted numerous events and our riders.

So Ben thought that if he played for Wild Pink Yonder, he would be playing for everyone!  You have got to love a kid like that!

Won’t you join me?  This Sunday I’m off to the Oil Kings game to cheer for Ben as he fights for the Wild Pink Yonder!
